Custom Wellness Business Website in Minnesota: The Unwind Collaborative Healing Center Build

Unwind: Collaborative Healing Center is a holistic wellness practice operating across three locations — Alexandria MN, St. Joseph MN, and Fargo ND. Established in 2013, they offer Craniosacral Therapy, Myofascial Release, lactation services, doula support, and life & wellness coaching. Building a wellness website is fundamentally different from building a contractor website — same engineering rigor, completely different brand voice. Here’s how we approached it.

Project Overview: A Multi-Location Healing Practice That Needed a Calm Online Home

Unwind is one of our favorite builds because it sits in a completely different brand space than the contractor websites we’re known for. The mission: create a multi-location wellness website that feels as calm, professional, and trust-building as walking into one of the physical centers. Established 2013, three locations across Minnesota and North Dakota, full menu of holistic services.

The site lives at the wellness practice’s domain and serves as the front door for new client booking, class registration, and practitioner discovery. Where deep healing meets compassionate community — that’s the tagline we used in the hero, and the entire build reflects that voice.

The Problem: Most Wellness Websites Feel Wrong

Wellness websites have a specific failure mode that contractor websites don’t. The look and voice of the site has to match the modality being offered or qualified clients click away within seconds. Aggressive sales copy, harsh colors, busy layouts, or stock-photo-laden hero sections actively repel the kind of buyer a wellness practice wants.

The specific problems we set out to solve for Unwind:

The Tech Stack: Hand-Coded for Calm

Same architectural pattern as our contractor builds — static HTML, fast load, owned code — but with completely different aesthetic choices. The typography pair, the color palette, and the imagery do the heavy lifting on brand.

HTML5 / CSS3 Vanilla JavaScript Cormorant Garamond (serif) Nunito Sans (body) Inline SVG Icons Multi-Page Architecture Google Apps Script (forms) Google Apps Script (bookings) HealthAndBeautyBusiness Schema Multi-Location Geo Coverage Custom Brand System Mobile-First Responsive

Why Cormorant Garamond + Nunito Sans

Typography on a wellness site is the single biggest brand decision. Cormorant Garamond is a serif typeface with a refined, calm presence — we use it for headings to signal craft and intentionality. Nunito Sans is a humanist sans-serif with rounded letterforms — we use it for body text because it reads warm without feeling unprofessional. Together they create exactly the tone a healing center needs.

Why Google Apps Script for Forms and Bookings

Unwind needed to capture inquiries and class registrations without a heavy CRM subscription. We wired forms to Google Apps Script handlers (visible in the repo as google-apps-script.js and google-apps-script-bookings.js) which route submissions directly to a Google Sheet and trigger email notifications. Free, reliable, and the practice already lived in Google Workspace — perfect fit.

Key Features We Built for Unwind

Compassion-Voice Hero

Tagline “Where deep healing meets compassionate community” sets the brand voice in the first second. Three location pins are visible in the hero so clients immediately know it’s a multi-location practice.

Service Modality Cards

Craniosacral Therapy & MFR, Lactation Services, Doula Support, Wellness Coaching, and more — each with a brief, clear, jargon-free explanation of what the modality is and who it helps.

Booking Page

Dedicated /book page with structured intake. Clients pick the location, modality, and a preferred time window. Form submissions route to the practice via Google Apps Script.

Our Team / Practitioners Page

Each practitioner gets bio space with credentials, modalities offered, and personal voice. Critical for trust in this category.

Classes Page

Dedicated /classes page surfacing the practice’s ongoing class schedule. Updateable without rebuilding the site.

Three Location Pins

Alexandria MN, St. Joseph MN, and Fargo ND each get visibility in the hero and footer. Multi-location SEO baked in from the architecture.

Mobile-First Responsive

Most wellness booking happens on mobile. Every breakpoint hand-tuned. Booking form fields, location switching, and class schedules all work cleanly on a phone.

Multi-Location SEO

Geo tags, schema markup, and location-specific copy throughout. The site has a real shot at ranking in all three markets simultaneously.

The Multi-Location SEO Strategy

Multi-location wellness SEO is genuinely tricky. You can’t just slap three city names in the footer and call it done — Google sees through that. We used a three-pillar approach: hub-and-spoke architecture, location-specific copy throughout, and proper schema markup.

1. Hub-and-Spoke Site Architecture

The homepage is the hub. Each location gets meaningful representation in the navigation, footer, hero, and ideally its own dedicated location page. Each modality (Craniosacral Therapy, Doula Services, etc.) gets its own service page that mentions all three locations.

2. Location-Specific Copy Throughout

Every page mentions Alexandria, St. Joseph, and Fargo where relevant. Not stuffed — integrated. “Three locations across Minnesota and North Dakota” sets the multi-market positioning in the hero. Booking and contact pages reinforce it.

3. Schema Markup

We use HealthAndBeautyBusiness or similar schema with multiple location entries. This tells Google explicitly: “this business operates at these specific addresses.” Search results show up correctly in each market’s map pack.

4. Geo Tags Pointing to Primary Location

The geo.region, geo.placename, and ICBM coordinates point to Alexandria as the primary, but the schema covers all three. Google handles the disambiguation internally if the site signal is consistent.

5. Location-Specific Long-Tail Targeting

Instead of fighting for “wellness center Minnesota” (massive competition), we target “craniosacral therapy Alexandria MN,” “myofascial release Fargo ND,” “lactation consultant St. Joseph MN.” High-intent, lower-competition queries.

The Booking Architecture

Wellness booking is emotional, not transactional. The path needs to feel calm and respectful. No urgency banners. No pop-ups. No countdown timers. Just a clean booking page that respects the visitor’s state of mind.

Booking Flow

Practitioner Confirms

Why no instant-booking system: For most wellness modalities, a brief screening conversation between client and practitioner is part of the service quality. We deliberately built a request-based booking flow (not real-time calendar) so practitioners can vet sessions before confirming. This is what the practice actually wanted — tech serving the modality, not the other way around.

The Brand Voice Implementation

Brand voice on a wellness site isn’t cosmetic — it’s structural. Every typographic choice, color decision, image selection, and copy line either reinforces or undermines the trust the practice is trying to build. Here’s how we made it work for Unwind.

1. Serif + Sans Pairing

Cormorant Garamond for headings (refined, calm, intentional) paired with Nunito Sans for body (warm, readable, professional). The pairing signals “curated” without feeling clinical or intimidating.

2. Italic Modality Mentions

Service names like Craniosacral Therapy and Myofascial Release get italic treatment in places — a small typographic choice that signals these are specific techniques, not generic services.

3. Earth-Toned Color Palette

Soft, calming colors instead of bright primary palettes. Plenty of negative space. The site breathes.

4. Compassionate Copy Throughout

Phrases like “every stage of life,” “deep healing,” “compassionate community.” Specific, intentional, not jargony — matches how the practitioners actually talk about their work.

5. Location Strip Visibility

Three location pins right in the hero, instantly signaling that the practice has a real footprint. Builds trust in seconds.

The Business Outcome

Unwind now has a digital front door that matches the quality of the in-person experience. New clients who land via Google get a clear picture of the modalities, the practitioners, and the locations within seconds. The friction between curiosity and booking is minimal.

Brand Authority

The site looks and feels like an established 2013-founded healing center. Cormorant Garamond + Nunito Sans, gentle palette, three location pins in the hero — all signal a serious practice. Compared to the spa template most wellness centers run on, this is a significant authority upgrade.

Multi-Market Search Coverage

With proper geo signals and schema, the site can rank in Alexandria, St. Joseph, and Fargo simultaneously. A solo wellness practitioner in any one market would already win on this stack.

Booking Friction Reduced

The Google Apps Script-driven booking form eliminates manual form-handling overhead. Class registrations, new-client booking, and contact inquiries all flow into a single sheet that the practice can manage centrally.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a wellness business website need?
A wellness business website needs an obvious booking path, location and hours information for each physical site, a services or modalities page that explains what’s offered without jargon, an about / our team page that builds trust with practitioner photos and credentials, a class schedule (if classes are offered), and brand-consistent design that signals calm, care, and professionalism. Multi-location wellness businesses also need separate location pages for SEO.
How does multi-location SEO work for a wellness or spa website?
Each physical location gets its own dedicated page with unique copy, address, hours, location-specific services, and LocalBusiness or HealthAndBeautyBusiness schema. The site uses geo tags pointing to the primary location and references all locations in copy. This lets the site rank for searches like “craniosacral therapy Alexandria MN” and “wellness center Fargo ND” simultaneously without keyword-stuffing or spammy patterns.
Why is brand voice especially important for wellness websites?
Wellness clients are buying trust and emotional safety, not just a service. A wellness website with mismatched typography, harsh colors, or aggressive sales copy actively repels qualified clients. We use serif typography (Cormorant Garamond) paired with calming sans-serif body text (Nunito Sans) and gentle imagery to signal exactly the right brand emotion. Brand voice isn’t cosmetic on a wellness site — it’s structural.
Do you build wellness websites or only contractor websites?
We build both. Most of our portfolio is contractor and trades work because that’s our white-space niche — serving Central Minnesota tradespeople is where we go deepest. But we also build wellness, spa, restaurant, real estate, and small-business websites. The Unwind: Collaborative Healing Center site is one of our favorite non-trades builds because it shows our range — same engineering rigor, completely different brand voice.
How much does a custom wellness business website cost?
Most custom wellness business websites run $1,500–$3,500 depending on the page count, custom photography needs, multi-location complexity, and booking integration depth. Compared to ongoing platform fees on Mindbody, Acuity, or Wix, a one-time custom build pays for itself in 18–30 months and you own the site outright.
